Hi Marc,

You are doing everything right. Something is going wrong. You write
that imagemagick opens. Can you explain? When I attach a file, I type:

  C-c C-x <TAB>

and I am prompted for a file name. I select a file, and, like you, hit
<RET> three times for the default media type and encoding. imagemagick
is not involved.

Are you doing anything else when you send an attachment?

PS: Here, for instance, I have attached a photo from the front page of
wikipedia today.
