IETF Pushes Multi-languages Domain Names

BEIJING, Mar 12, 2003 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- Beijing Morning reported
that on March 8, 2003 (Beijing Time) IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force)
pushed multi-languages domain names standards including RFC3490, RFC3491,
RFC3492 after discussed and approved by experts.
The three standards solve problems of multi-languages code range and
pre-handling measures, conversion of multi-languages codes and
multi-languages domain names and applications supporting multi-languages
domain names.
News from CNNIC shows that it has developed applications compatible with
international standards, and the applications can be soon downloaded by
users free of charge. The applications support multi-languages domain names
including Chinese domain names. With the applications, Chinese users can
surf the Web easily.
According to the Regulations on China Internet Domain Name System issued by
the Ministry of Information Industry, Chinese top-level domain names
include .CN, .(China in Chinese), and .(Company in Chinese).
