will be addressing the Vancouver Institute on February 14, 2009 at 8:15 p.m., Lecture Hall No. 2 in the Woodward Instructional Resources Centre, University of British Columbia.
Educated at Oxford University and the London School of Economics, Professor Gerges is the author of two recently acclaimed books: Journey of the Jihadist: Inside Muslim Militancy, and The Far Enemy: Why Jihad Went Global. The Washington Post selected The Far Enemy as one of the best ten books in the field, and Journey of the Jihadist was on the best selling list of Barnes and Noble and Foreign Affairs magazine for several months. His articles and editorials have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Christian Science Monitor, The Baltimore Sun, The Independent, Al Hayat, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, Democracy, Survival, and others. Dr. Gerges has been the recipient of MacArthur, Fulbright and Carnegie Fellowships. This lecture is co-sponsored by the School for International Studies at Simon Fraser University.
