will be addressing the Vancouver Institute on February 28, 2009 at 8:15 p.m., Lecture Hall No. 2 in the Woodward Instructional Resources Centre, University of British Columbia.
A novelist, historian and essayist, Ronald Wright has won awards in all three genres, and is published around the world in more than a dozen languages. Before becoming a writer, he read archaeology at Cambridge University and the University of Calgary. In 2004 he gave the CBC Massey Lectures, published as the international bestseller, A Short History of Progress, which won the Libris Nonfiction Book of the Year award in 2005. His other books include the number-one bestsellers Time Among the Maya, and Stolen Continents, a prize-winning history of the Americas that was chosen a book of the year by the Independent and the Sunday Times. His first novel, A Scientific Romance, won Britain's David Higham Prize for Fiction and was chosen a book of the year by the Sunday Times, the Globe and Mail, and the New York Times. Wright is a frequent contributor to the Times Literary Supplement, and has written and presented documentaries for radio and television in Canada, Britain, and the United States. His latest book (2008) is the number-one bestseller What Is America? A Short History of the New World Order.
