i read the hip specs at about the same as harald did, and while i'm on
the mailing list, i don't read it at all carefully.

with that said, i think that harald's comparision of hip to a new
transport protocol is apt, even though that's not quite what hip's
about.  basicly, hip is a cool protocol that may (opinions vary)
provide traction on a set of low level problems of interest to some
combination of routing, transport, and crypto folks, but hip has not
had much success in finding driving user-visible applications.

hip is also somewhat heretical on several fronts, so it tends to
trigger strong feelings in both the internet and security areas.
