Mute Feature in Teleconference System

Dear IESG Members:

We have noticed a significant amount of ambient noise at recent IESG telechats, for example, when a participant calls from a public place such as an airport. In addition, there have been other types of distractions such as echoes on phone lines. One way of minimizing the impact of such distractions is for all participants to mute their phones when they are not speaking.

I just learned from OneVoice, our teleconference service provider, that there is a mute feature in the system that is available to all participants on a call. Participants can mute their phones by pressing *6, and un-mute them by pressing *6 again. At the next telechat, please consider muting your phone when you are in "listening mode." If your phone does not have a mute button, then please take advantage of the *6 mute feature in the system.

Regards,

Barbara
