What Makes a Westerner

Sharon Butala is a novelist and writer of creative non-fiction whose work reflects on rural life in southern Saskatchewan, where she lives and works. The Perfection of the Morning, a non-fiction meditation on prairie life, has been her best selling book and has won several awards. Her most recent book, Wild Stone Heart, continues the themes and exploration of Perfection. Sharon is also an environmental activist who, with her husband, has set up a large nature preserve in the Cypress Hills. Ms. Butala's talk to The Institute is based on her new book, Lilac Moon, to be published in 2005.
