What You Want is What You Get: A Fishy Look at the Limitations of Science
Dr. Cochrane is a Senior Fishery Resources Officer in the Fisheries Department of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. His activities and responsibilities centre on assistance to countries in the implementation of the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries and the provision of technical support in stock assessment and fisheries management to countries in the Caribbean area and the south east Atlantic. He completed his studies up to Master's level at the University of Zimbabwe and his Ph.D. at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, in both cases with studies on freshwater fisheries. He has a particular interest in dealing with the problems associated with reconciling the conservation requirements of responsible fisheries with the frequently crucial social and economic benefits they provide to society.
