Professor Durbach is a teacher, dramatist, and occasional actor in the Theatre Studies Program at UBC. He has written extensively on modern drama, and is best known for his work on the plays of Henrik Ibsen. Scenes from his version of Peer Gynt, staged in the Theatre on Campus season in 1999, were invited to the Peer Gynt Festival in Norway one year later. He is a recipient of the Dorothy Somerset Award, and is currently the President of the International Ibsen Committee.
