What Are We Reading When We Read Autobiography?

Professor Eakin has published three books on autobiography: Fictions in Autobiography: Studies in the Art of Self-Invention (1985), Touching the World: Reference in Autobiography (1992), and How Our Lives Become Stories (1999). He is currently working on two projects; the first, an edited volume entitled Mapping the Ethics of Life Writing, and the second, a new book on the role of autobiography entitled Regulating Lives: The Social Consequences of Self Narration.
