The trouble with /56 is that it's enough for people to shoot  
themselves in the foot. You can build quite a large network with 256  
subnets and if you then discover that you have to renumber when you  
need that 257th subnet that's not a good deal. If you have a /60 on  
the other hand, you're going to ask for something larger (which should  
be a /48) pretty quickly.
