Professor Michael Church
Department of Geography
UBC

will be addressing the Vancouver Institute on February 28 at 8:15 p.m. in Lecture Hall No. 2 in the Woodward Instructional Resources Centre, University of British Columbia.

A RIVER IN TIME:
THE NATURAL HISTORY OF THE FRASER RIVER

Educated at the University of Toronto and UBC, Professor Church joined the Geography Department in 1969, and since that time has devoted his research efforts to the study of sediment transport, stability and morphology of some of the world's greatest rivers, including the Mackenzie, Peace and Fraser. His research on rivers and the interface between forestry and aquatic habitats has made Professor Church particularly qualified to comment on issues of resource management and, as a consequence, he was chosen as a member of the Scientific Panel for Sustainable Forest Practices in Clayoquot Sound.
