Beauty Is As Beauty Does:
The Ethics and "Physick" of Opera

Professors Linda and Michael Hutcheon have conducted extensive collaborative, interdisciplinary work on opera. Their first book on the cultural construction of sexuality, gender and disease in opera was entitled Opera: Desire, Disease, Death. Their second book, a study of both the real and the represented operatic body entitled Bodily Charm: Living Opera, was published in 2000. They have also published articles in this area in journals such as The Cambridge Opera Journal and the University of Toronto Quarterly. They are working on another new collaborative book project, The Final Curtain: Death and Dying in Opera which has been contracted by Harvard University Press.
