Reflections on Current Dilemmas

Dr. Michael Stevenson became Simon Fraser University's eighth President on December 1, 2000, having completed his seventh year as Vice-President (Academic Affairs) and Provost at York University in Ontario. Born in South Africa, he left after graduation (B.A., University of Witwatersrand) for graduate studies in the USA (Ph.D., Northwestern). A faculty member at York since 1971, he has taught at other universities in the United States, Canada and Nigeria. He has published extensively on post-independence developments in Sub-Saharan Africa; Canadian political culture and public opinion (including the recent book Politics and Ideology in Canada) and health policy in Canada.
