The Sea of Galilee Boat: An Extraordinary 2000-Year-Old Discovery
Before coming to Texas A&M, Professor Wachsmann served as the Inspector of Underwater Antiquities for Israel's Department of Antiquities and Museums from 1976 to 1989. As their resident nautical archaeologist, he was responsible for discovering, recording and protecting Israel's nautical heritage. He has conducted extensive research in the Mediterranean Sea, the Sea of Galilee, and the Red Sea. He is the author of numerous scientific and popular publications and is the author of four books. His most recent book, Seagoing Ships and Seamanship in the Bronze Age Levant, was published in 1998. Professor Wachsmann teaches courses in Biblical Archaeology and Preclassical Seafaring and is currently carrying out nautical research in Israel. He is a featured grantee in National Geographic Interactive.
