Early Christianity and the Roman Empire
A graduate of Oxford, Professor Barnes devotes most of his teaching and research time to the history, literature, culture and religions of the Roman Empire from Augustus to the sixth century. Among his current research projects are The Theodosian Code and Early Christian Hagiography. His main recent publications include: Constantine and Christianity: Ancient Evidence and Modern Interpretation; Representation and Reality in Ammianus Marcellinus; The Collapse of the Homoeans in the East; From Eusebius to Augustine: Selected Papers 1982-1993; and Athanasius and Constantius: Theology and Politics in the Constantinian Empire.
