Democracy, Human Rights, and the Chinese Political Tradition

Professor Will holds the chair in Chinese history at the prestigious College de France in Paris. A specialist in eighteenth-century China, he has published extensively in French and English on a wide range of topics, including famine relief, forensic medicine, and Chinese political institutions. His books include Bureaucracy and Famine in Eighteenth-Century China and Nourish the People. His current work focuses on the place of democracy and human rights in contemporary China.
