will be addressing the Vancouver Institute on October 29, 2005 at 8:15 p.m., Lecture Hall No. 2 in the Woodward Instructional Resources Centre, University of British Columbia.

Emerging Epidemics and Pandemics:
Are They Inevitable and Catastrophic?

Former acting director of the UBC Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Bowie teaches at UBC and practices medicine at VGH. The author of over 160 scientific articles, chapters and monographs, he is an internationally recognized expert on the genesis, spread and control of infectious diseases, including STD, SARS, tropical diseases, as well as antibiotic resistance and bioterrorism. He has served as an advisor in Mexico, Sweden, Canada and the United States, including the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta.
