Mr. Ronald Wright

will be addressing the Vancouver Institute on November 19, 2005 at 8:15 p.m., Lecture Hall No. 2 in the Woodward Instructional Resources Centre, University of British Columbia.
The Traps of Progress
Before becoming a writer, Mr. Wright studied archaeology at Cambridge University and the University of Calgary, which awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1996. His books include the number-one bestsellers Time Among the Maya and Stolen Continents, which won the Gordon Montador Award and was chosen a book of the year by the Independent and the Sunday Times. His first novel, A Scientific Romance, won Britain's David Higham Prize for Fiction and was chosen a book of the year by the Globe and Mail, the Sunday Times, and the New York Times. Mr. Wright is a frequent contributor to the Times Literary Supplement, and has made radio and television broadcasts in Canada, Britain, and the United States. In 2004 he gave the CBC Massey Lectures, A Short History of Progress, the book of which became a national bestseller.
