History and Cinema: Imagining Britain's Past
Educated at Sussex and Oxford University, Professor Eley taught at Cambridge before joining the faculty at the University of Michigan in 1979. He is one of the most prominent, influential and controversial specialists on the history of modern Germany, having authored 11 books and over 200 scholarly articles and reviews on this subject and related historical issues. Professor Eley has recently broadened his scope of research and intellectual inquiry to focus on the nature of social and cultural history and the role of the media, including film, in shaping and perpetuating knowledge and images of the past.
