DIRECT DEMOCRACY: ANCIENT AND MODERN

Professor Hansen is a preeminent historian and the leading world scholar of ancient Greek constitutional studies. His definitive book Athenian Democracy in the Age of Demosthenes (1991) has been translated into French, German, Polish and Italian. His latest publication is as editor for A Comparative Study of Thirty City-State Cultures. Dr. Hansen is a Fellow of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters and the British Academy. He has published a voluminous series of books and articles on many aspects of ancient Greek law and government and has presented invited lectures in numerous major cities and universities of the world. The interdisciplinary Polis Centre, which Dr. Hansen heads, attracts scholars worldwide.
