GENETIC DETERMINISM: LIFE BEYOND GENES
A graduate in biochemistry from Cambridge and neuroscience from Oxford, Dr. Rose has spent much of his research career studying the complexities of the brain, focussing in particular on learning and memory. The author of Lifelines: Biology, Beyond Determinism, The Making of Memory, co-author of Not In Our Genes, and editor of From Brains to Consciousness, Professor Rose's research goal is to "offer an alternative vision of living systems, a vision which recognizes the power and role of genes without subscribing to genetic determinism." One of his most recent discoveries is a new molecule which may alleviate memory loss associated with Alzheimer's Disease.
