TERRA INCOGNITA: PATHFINDING IN SCIENCE
A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Professor Hepburn was educated at the Universities of Waterloo and Toronto where he studied under Prof. John Polanyi. He subsequently worked in Prof. Y.T. Lee's laboratory at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and then began his academic career back at the University of Waterloo in 1982. In 2001, he assumed the headship of UBC's Chemistry Department. He has been a Fellow of the A.P. Sloan Foundation, a Foreign Research Fellow of the CNRS, and a Canada Council Killam Fellow. He has been awarded the Rutherford Medal and the Noranda Prize and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society. Dr. Hepburn is internationally renowned for his research in laser spectroscopy and laser chemistry, and has delivered over 160 invited lectures at international conferences and research institutions in North and South America, Europe, and Asia.
