INSECTS AS FRIENDS AND FOES

Educated at Tufts and Indiana universities, Dr. Myers joined the faculty of UBC in 1972. One of Canada's leading ecologists, Professor Myers specializes in insect ecology, conservation biology and agroecology. She is intimately involved in using basic ecological principles to solve important applied problems. Dr. Myers is part of a new nationwide Biological Control Network funded by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council. This research effort is developing new microbial pesticides and techniques to maintain effective biological control of insects such as cabbage loopers and caterpillars which threaten the output of vegetables and flowers from Canada's thriving greenhouse industry.
