William Osler and the Canadian Tradition of Medical Excellence
Considered the leading Canadian writing on the history of medicine today, Dr. Bliss has written the authoritative modern biography of 19th-century Canadian physician William Osler, who markedly influenced the course of medicine in the 20th century. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, Dr. Bliss has authored seven other books, including The Discovery of Insulin; Banting: A Biography; A Story of Smallpox in Montreal; and Right Honourable Men: The Descent of Canadian Politics from Macdonald to Mulroney. Dr. Bliss' visit to UBC marks the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of UBC's Faculty of Medicine, and this lecture is co-sponsored by the Medical Faculty.
