The Overloaded Self in a Jump-Cut Culture
Dr. Gitlin holds degrees in mathematics, political science and sociology. A central figure in the study of mass media, communications and journalism, he has authored eight books, including The Sixties: Years of Hope, Days of Rage and The Twilight of Common Dreams: Why America is Wracked by Culture Wars. He has spoken to overflow audiences at universities and public venues in North America, Europe, Asia and Africa. He is a regular commentator on the CBC, National Public Radio in the U.S. and for the New York Times. He has received awards from the National Endowment of the Humanities, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the MacArthur Foundation.
