Thanks for coming back on that issue. Actually, when I load the file “smime.p7m“ in a buffer, i do see ^M being displayed — no matter, if I started emacs with the -Q option or with all my init file. So, everything seems to be fine. I wonder where you didn’t see ^M or thought that it would not be displayed at my side.
